Every day at work we face challenges that impact our work, office relationships, and more importantly the company. Whenever we are faced with any challenges work-wise, analyzing them with its pros and cons before making any decision is very important for the betterment of the company. When the question ” what is the toughest decision you made in last 6 months?” is asked in an interview, there are no right or wrong answers.
They just want to know how you handled a situation in your past to get an idea of how you would take decisions in the future in their company. All that matters is your thought process before taking any decision when any adversities occur. Like it is said, your past tells a lot about you so it can be a good predictor to get a gist about your critical thinking in such cases.
TWO POINTS TO KEEP IN MIND WHILE ANSWERING ” WHAT IS THE TOUGHEST DECISION YOU MADE IN LAST 6 MONTHS?”
First and foremost, your toughest decision should be work-related and not some of your problems or crisis you have faced recently. Don’t bore the interviewer with irrelevant details. He is not interested in your personal life.
Secondly, ensure that you mention all the specific details regarding the situation. Why did you do it? How did you do? How it benefitted the company? Choose an incident where you come out as a confident, logical, realistic person who took the right decision for the company without belittling anyone. You cannot make everyone happy but what is most important is how you handle the situation without creating much fuss about it.

The toughest decision I made was while I was choosing my stream. After my 10 results came out pretty good, My family wanted me to become a doctor and convinced me to get enrolled in the PCM-B section. I attended the classes for a month and realized the science background is not my cup of tea and this is not something I will enjoy doing. Mathematics was fun for me then also. So, I changed my stream to commerce. It took time for everyone to sink this in but here I am now a Chartered accountant interviewing for this job.
